I’m Erin M. Brown, MA, MFA—an author, developmental editor, line editor, and story coach with 25+ years of experience helping authors across all genres craft powerful, emotionally resonant stories. My approach blends deep craft expertise with compassionate, personalized support. With expertise in romance writing, I focus on strengthening structure, deepening character arcs, clarifying motivations, and enhancing emotional payoff, while protecting the voice that makes your story uniquely yours.
About Erin (Full Bio)
For over 30 years, Erin has been creating and guiding stories for print and screen, including novels, short stories, film, and television. From advising A-listers on season arcs and screenplays to working one-on-one with authors on novels, Erin helps both pros and beginners as a story consultant.
A frequent speaker on the art of storytelling for SFWA, RWA, SCBWI, and more, Erin earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Genre Fiction from Western Colorado University and holds two other degrees in fields that dovetail into understanding how to reach others with ideas. She’s also the author of 22 books, hundreds of articles, thousands of pages for hundreds of how-to-write courses, and training programs for storytelling copywriters impacting well-known corporate brands.
Each year, Erin judges multiple national and international storytelling contests for author organizations (e.g., RWA, SCBWI), including the Golden Heart and Diamond Heart Awards (formerly the Ritas/Vivians), Romance through the Ages Contest, RWA NYC Big Apple Contest, and more. She has also been featured in articles, blogs, columns, websites, webinars, conferences, and on the radio since the late 80s.
Erin was recruited years ago as a writer-designer for a college writing program, which later evolved into the oversight of three university writing and communications programs. She went on to create and guide writing curriculum for multiple well-known universities and online learning groups and to serve as an adjunct professor of writing, leadership, and communications for 17 years. A few of her nonfiction books on academic writing are used worldwide.
Today, Erin consults with authors of all genres and specializes in romance writing. She works with well-known novelists, screenwriters, directors, and actors, focusing on the future of powerful stories in novels, TV, and film. Her joy? Bringing clean, crisp, correct editing know-how to you and your book.
